Looks like the Secret Avengers headquarters is a ship that flys around high up in the sky. In this story it starts with the aftermath of Wonder Man trashing Avengers Mansion and many of The Avengers. Apparently he did it to hold them accountable for something and he has his own group of tough guys with him.

Eventually Stark captured Wonder Man's Ionic form and prevented more damage. Interestingly Wonder Man had died a few years back but was recreated by Wanda Maximoff.

The Defenders lose the opening battle to Pastor John and his troops then taken to New Avalon as captives. During this The Breaker of Worlds wreaks havoc on his way home to Wondagore. Eventually they break free and Doctor Strange reasons with the Pastor who then tells them that The Breaker of Worlds is on his way there for the Concordance Engine to get home. He will then destroy the engine, create a rift in time where the Pastor and his troops can escape too as well.

All-New Popeye Comics Debut in April from IDW

Acclaimed creator Roger Langridge to write series
IDW Publishing today announced that comic industry star Roger Langridge will write the company's all-new POPEYE comic series, which will debut in April 2012.
Expanding their partnership with King Features to include new material, IDW's POPEYE comics will offer all-new adventures with the famous "Sailor Man" and his friends, including Olive Oyl, Bluto, Wimpy and Swee' Pea. Joining Langridge to bring Popeye back to comics is rising-star artist Bruce Ozella. The monthly POPEYE series will be co-edited by IDW's co-founder and chief executive officer, Ted Adams and renowned comics expert Craig Yoe.
"I grew up reading Segar's Popeye and we'll be bringing his sensibility to our new series," said Adams. "Especially now with our all-star creative team, I'm really looking forward to launching this series in April."
Throughout his more than twenty years in the comics industry, Langridge has garnered critical and fan acclaim for his work on an impressive list of projects, including the Harvey Award-winning Muppet Show Comic Book (Boom! Studios) and Thor: The Mighty Avenger (Marvel Comics).
"Ever since I was a kid, the two cartoonists who have had the biggest influence on me have been Carl Barks and E.C. Segar, so getting a chance to write Popeye is quite a thrill," said Langridge. "I'm especially pleased that IDW have decided to go with a Segar-flavored interpretation. As much as I like some of the later versions of the character, for me, it's those early strips where the magic really happened. Just as well Segar drew everybody with big feet, because Bruce and I have some enormous shoes to fill!"
Created by Elzie Crisler Segar in January 1929, Popeye the Sailor Man quickly became one of the most popular and enduring comics characters of all time. Hello and welcome to another edition of Marvel Snapshot! In this week's character spotlight, I'll be focusing in on one of my favorite cosmic peeps, Moondragon! Yes, the one and only Heather Douglas will be this week's spectacular character on display, so get ready for some space madness! Moonie was created in 1973 (Iron Man #54) by Bill Evrett, Mike Friedrich, and George Tuska!

Heather Douglas was just your average ordinary kid, when one day on a road trip with her parents, she saw something incredible. A spaceship landed near their car, but the pilot of the ship didn't want any witnesses, so he blew up the car. The explosion catapulted Heather out of the car and out of harm's way. Who would do such a vile thing? Thanos, that's who! Heather was then picked up and adopted by Mentor of Titan, and raised in the ways of his people. Mentor also used the dead corpse of Heather's father to construct the being known as Drax the Destroyer!

After her training on Titan, she eventually made her way to Earth. It didn't take long for her to become part of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Avengers! Her first big story was alongside the Avengers battling Thanos. This would be a recurring theme with her ties to the mad Titan. She was next selected by Kang the Conqueror, as one chosen to mother a child that would possibly become a savior in the story Celestial Madonna. In it, we saw Moondragon, Mantis, Scarlet Witch, and Agatha Harkness get abducted by Kang in order to find out which one of them is going to bear the child who shall become the savior of the universe. Of course, the Avengers are pitted against Kang, and also the Avengers get an assist from Rama-Tut. In my opinion, this is the best Avengers story ever, period.

After that, Moondragon has a run in with Thor, and ends up getting put in her place by Odin. She then travels with Drax to a planet that is constantly at war with another. She abuses her mental powers by taking away their freedom of choice, and forcing them to get along. This starts a downward spiral for her, and then she finds out that subtly she's been being influenced all along by the Dragon of the Moon. She desperately tries to get away from its grip, but fails in the end. Later yet, she was involved with Annihilation, as her and Phyla-Vell had to fight off Thanos, help free the Silver Surfer and Galactus, then help thwart Annihilus's plans. Afterward, she joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, alongside the likes of Starlord, Mantis, and a host of others. This series is another one of my all time favorites as well.

Cap battles it out to try and bring Daredevil in. Daredevil tells him he did those things under someone else's control. Cap let's him go for now but it's not over. Looks like Cap nowadays is "Sousa March".

Daredevil finds out his client is being prevented from winning the case because with the winnings he would have bought the building his store is in. Turns out some evil dudes are up to no good in the abandoned part of the building.

Daredevil then gets captured in the last panel. The villain is the guy made of sound from Secret Wars.

UPCOMING-‘The Omega Effect’ Unveiled By Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics has unveiled its 'Omega Effect' crossover.

Spider-Man, Daredevil and The Punisher will collide in the storyline, which launches in April.

The story will spin out of Daredevil's possession of the so-called 'Omega Drive' in Mark Waid's ongoing series.

"Daredevil has basically conned five of the biggest crime communities in the Marvel Universe – Hydra, AIM, Black Spectre, Secret Empire and Hidden Team – out of a unique hard drive that contains key information on all five organizations,"

said Waid at Marvel's Next Big Thing conference call.

"It's the hot potato that Daredevil has and it makes him the most dangerous man on Earth."

"The problem with Daredevil holding the device is that these organizations don't want anyone else to have it,"

said Punisher writer Greg Rucka.

"Once Frank finds out about the drive and finds out what's on it, he says, 'You know what? Give that to me'. Frank's feeling is 'I can keep it safe and I can use it properly', so one sees the conflict immediately between these two gentlemen."

Spider-Man is asked to retrieve the Drive by its inventor Reed Richards, and will have a serious run in with the trigger happy Punisher.

'The Omega Effect' will launch in April in Avenging Spider-Man #6, and continue in Daredevil #11 and Punisher #10.

A bunch of villains are being invited to join a society by "The Calculator". Namely "Mr. Freeze", "Multiplex", "Fadeaway Man" and many more. The story also centers on "Catman" who turned down the offer.
Switch to the Amazon where "Mockingbird" (with "DeadShot") relay commands to "Ceshire" (AKA "Jade"), "Fiddler", "Parademon" and "Ragdoll" fight some minions to hijack a device and insert a lozenge? Although mission is accomplished 2 of the minions get away so DeadShot is ordered to kill Fiddler which he does, they now need a new member of the team. Because Catman is being hunted by the Society for turning them down he joins the team. This team of 6 is meant to destroy The Society who is 200 members strong.

Cool book, especially with me being out of touch with the recent Marvel universe. It actually goes right back to the beginning in terms of characters and history. One interesting run was "Defenders For a Day" where many other heroes became Defenders (Defenders 62-65 1978).

Aleta:
Heroine in a future alternate reality (691). First appearances: Image only in Defenders No. 29 (1975) and physical form in Marvel Presents No. 4 (1976).

Doctor Strange (recent):
Recruited to Tony Stark's Illuminate then became the "Sorcerer Supreme" after the originals death. Later he formed the "Secret Defenders" and the "Midnight Sons". After giving Hulk Zom's powers it overwhelmed him and he shattered Strange's hands rendering him unable to cast spells and use the Zom power. Due to distrust of his altered powers And mistakenly mobilizing the Avengers he isolated himself.

He was now unworthy of the Sorcerer Supreme title and the Eye of Agamotto selected the unsavory Dr. Voodoo instead. Later Strange accepted Casey Kinmont as his apprentice.

Later Strange and Dr. Voodoo were taken over by the creator of the Eye of Agamotto and forced to attack the Avengers to get it back. In battle Dr. Voodoo was disintegrated and the Sorcerer Supreme title was again vacant. Strange then moved into Avengers mansion.
During the Chaos War Strange's Zom power was awakened and Zom temporarily used him in the Chaos King's service.

Strange recently formed The Defenders to battle "Nul", the personification of the Hulk's negative emotions.

Interloper:
Really cool being I read about years back in The Defenders 147, I still have that issue.

Iron Fist (recent):
When Steve Rogers replaced Luke Cake as the leader of a new team of The Avengers Iron Fist joined. Th first mission was to battle Agamotto where his was christened as his champion and given the white costume. Later Iron Fist helped end Daredevil's influence buy The Hand but not before a full scale war in the streets of New York. He began working with Cage again before being recruited to The Defenders by Doctor Strange.

Red She-Hulk (Betty Ross):
Kidnapped by Modok of A.I.M. And transformed into "Harpy". After she was back to normal she was seemingly killed by "Abomination" when he injected her with an irradiated concoction. She survived and was transformed later into the Red She-Hulk by "The Leader" and the "Intelligencia Cabal" as part of their plans to create a Hulk army. She later helped defeat her new masters and fought at the Hulk's side during the Chaos War.

She and Bruce fled to Brazil but later fled after the Hulk was taken over by "Nul". She Hulk kept one of the swords enchanted by "Ordin Borson" and joined The Defenders.

Null:
"The World Breaker", one of the Asgardian gods Serpent's Worthy.

Silver Surfer (recent):
After being trapped on Earth by Galacticus he later was able to escape as well as make peace with Galacticus. After Galacticus was weekened by a battle with "Annihilus" Surfer decided to help him and direct him to less destructive paths and Galacticus started employing multiple heralds such as "Stardust" and or a brief period "Deadpool".

Later Surfer, "Beta Ray Bill", "Quasar", "Gladiator", "Ronan The Accuser" and "Space Knight" formed "The Annihilators". During Chaos War Surfer and Galacticus also joined a god squad formed by Hercules.

Interestingly Surfer fed Galacticus some of the sun's power thereby shortening it's life span.
What what really interesting was that the "High Evolutionary" stole Surfers comic power turning him back to Norrin Radd. The Future Foundation (re-organized Fantastic Four) helped him regain his powers and eventually was released from Galacticus's service after helping him against the High Evolutionary. After fighting Odin for The Galactus Seed it was lost on earth deep within the Yggdrasil and Galacticus allowed Surfer to stay on Earth to protect it where his power would be the greatest and gave him the ability to transform back to human form. Galactus then selected and transformed "Pastor Mike" as his new Herald.

Doctor Strange comes back to his old sanctum (after giving up the role back in Hulk 126) expecting it to be boarded up but instead finds someone else using his powers and posing as him. They battle each other and after defeating the charlatan Strange unmasks him as Baron Mordo. After this he vows to return to his role to protect the secret powers.

A bunch of devil worshippers summon "Dormammu" to earth. Doctor Strange figures this out and calls upon the Defenders to help him again. The worshipers however find Strange's body and kidnap him while he is in astral form. Clea and the rest of the Defenders locate Bald Mountain where Strange's body is being held and rescue him in time to battle it out with Dormammu.

Local Story: Part 1 "I Hate Myself and Want To Die"

Weird stuff started happening all over Bucharest like elevators sprouting new non existent floors and people getting phone calls from dead relatives. After this there is a large panel of "The Breaker of Worlds", the beast on the cover.
Next is Stephan Strange after he slept with a collage student, interesting modern stuff. Looks like he was living a normal life and no longer Dr. Strange. Next thing you know the Hulk barges into his study asking for help.
All of them go looking for the Silver Surfer to join them, Hulk explains to him how the Breaker of worlds must be stopped. Silver Surfer agrees but Hulk advises he can't go and that they should take the She Hulk instead.
Eventually Iron Fist gets added to the crew and they are finally off to Wundagore Mountain. Just as they are about to land the plane is shot down and Iron Fist is shot in the chest as the team is surrounded.

Looks like the "X-Club" are the X-Men's group of scientists and consist of "Dr. Nemesis", "Kavita Rao", "Madison Davies" and "Danger".
Story starts off in 1945 with Bucky, Captain America, Namor and The Human Torch. Fast forward to present day and Magneto and Cyclops are presenting a special artificial land project off the coast of Brazil to improve the X-Men's rep. They also unveil an elevator into space called "The Springstar". The Atlanteans are protesting that the rig is having a negative affect on them.
All of a sudden one of the Atlanteans freaks out, causes trouble on the rig then blows up. Not long after Danger starts freaking out too.

This apparently is right after Fear Itself after Steve Rogers is back as Captain America. The first scene is S.H.I.E.L.D. Cleaning up "Goliath" after he was killed in battle by Thor.
Rewind a few months and Captain America is lying bleeding in a court house after being shot by a sniper. Outside S.H.I.E.L.D. Cleans up some dead Skrulls while others are led away in cuffs. It looks like the Avengers Tower was destroyed and The Avengers are back at Luke Cage's mansion. It also looks like there will be a re-shuffle of the membership.
In the last few panels a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. Goes to A.I.M. With biological information of certain super powered heroes.

As a side story Pepper Potts fight "The Sand Man" and "Electro"?
At the end Tony makes a pitch to Thor and the Asgardians to let his company rebuild Asgard, which they agree to. The issue ends with an explosion and a footnote that it continues in Fear Itself No. 1.

Wow, I wasn't fully caught up with the storyline. Looks like Steve Rogers got his Captain America persona back and the replacement is pretending to be dead and working secretly for the West Coast team. Cap discovers a bunch of teenagers in the New York area have mysteriously gone missing and begins to investigate. In order to go under cover he gets "Sersi" to set him back to when he was 15 years old, it will wear off in 48 hours. The other side story is that the old replacement Captain America's partner is scouring the city looking for him. He meets up with "The Falcon" (saving him from The Serpent Society) hoping that he can lead him to Captain America and some clues to his whereabouts. Steve Rogers finds what e is looking for when he is kidnapped by "The Sisters of Sin".

Story 3: "Camptown Rages!" Reprinting Captain America 356 (August 1989)

Captain America is shuttled with other kids to a hate camp run by the sisters. He gets himself into trouble and is beaten to the edge of death at the end of the issue.

Cap returns to form 10 hours early and is able to fight off the sisters and their muscle. He then captured the head sister and flooded the camp with cops but many of the kids still can't be found.

The art in this issue is unreal, I love McFarlane's work. The X-Men are front and center in this story as they cross paths with the Hulk in Dallas Fort Worth, where there seems to be a blizzard going on? The villain called "The Leader" is also involved somehow. The Hulk and Wolverine start tearin it up big time, Wolverine cuts him open and makes him bleed. Eventually someone breaks up the fight but I never did find out why it was snowing in Texas.

This is the beginning of the storyline where Stark finds out (through examining Clay Wilson's armor) that someone had bugged his lab, stolen his technology and used it to create/sell similar suits to bad guys and then decides to hunt them down and destroy them. Apparently the person responsible is "Justin Hammer". But it was actually "Spymaster" who stole the technology and sold it to Hammer before Spymaster died in issue 220.
Stark also gets Scott Lang, AKA "Ant-Man" to help him with some of the wet work.
Once Stark got the list of bad guys with his technology he started working on frying the suits. Starting with "Stilt Man", "The Mauler" and "The Controller". At the same time Stark tries to get legal injunctions agains people using his technology with no affect, because of this he decides to take the law into his own hands and the quest begins.

Awesome story about John Stewart struggling to come to terms with being persecuted for his skin color and jailed in Apartheid Nambia. Hal Jordan gives him part of his ring power but later regrets it when he falls in with the revolutionaries. In the end Hal sets him right and John flys off into space to sort himself out.
One storyline I read about but need to chase down is when the all the Guardians but one leave planet OA and no longer control the Lanterns.

Apparently some dude calling himself "The Collector of Worlds" puts a big piece if Metropolis in glass for his own amusement. At the sane time Superman fights a robot suited soldier controlled by the bad guy and is then defeated by Lex Luthor in a similar suit, weird. I like the story, really creative.

Unfortunately I'll have to wait until issue 7 for the outcome as there will be an interlude.

The Midnighter teams up with Apollo to free the Stormwatch team (Martian Manhunter, Adam One, The Engineer, Jenny Quantum, The Eminence of Blades and Jack Hawksmoor) who had been absorbed by the moon creature.

After they were freed they teamed up, found a special alchemical process in one of the lost cities to turn the beast into a sort of glass.

I guess the "Stormwatch Shadow Cabinet" didn't like it as they sent a representative to kill Adam One as he failed as the team's leader.

Batman Noel (Christmas Special)

The story looks like its a Batman slant of the "Scrooge" Christmas story. Beginning of the story starts off with Bob (take on Scrooge's Bob Cratchet) doing a job on a Christmas night for his terrible boss (sounding like it's the Joker). And yes, Bob had a kid named Timmy.
Interestingly enough Scrooge was actually Batman in this story, jaded by a life of crime fighting that consumed him and left him only seeing the bad side of everyone. But more importantly the one thing burning his conscience was the death of Robin. So much so that he started seeing visions of him.
Eventually Superman shows up and tries to give him some good advise. Up until now Batman has been coughing pretty badly and probably has phnemonia. It's interesting how Superman tries to be one of the 3 ghosts from the Scrooge story. I rely like one line he gave him, "look at your people, take a second and look as hard as your lambs as you do your lions".
Later in the story the Joker got the jump on Batman by rigging the Batmobile to explode knocking him unconscious. Batman found himself berried alive in a cemetery but freed himself in time to save Bob and his son from the Joker, giving Bob the opportunity to be a bigger man and not shoot the Joker in front of his son.
Batman also sent Bob a Christmas tree the next day and got him a job, a heart warming story.

They plan on downloading a clone of the great "Bomb Queen" to go on a rampage to cleanse humanity to start over. It turns out the police patrol was lured there to help facilitate the plan. By issues end Bomb Queen was released and creating havoc on earth.

As a prologue to the next story Steve Rogers shows up asking if Stark will help him make a new Shield.

Moon Knight hunts for Cornelius Van Lunt and visits Jack Russel (Werewolf) hoping for some information. He runs into "The Shroud" in his Tower of Shadows instead and both of them battle it out. He had lured Moon Knight there to test him and offer him membership in the "Night Shift". Moon Knight turned it down and The Shroud agreed to help him find Van Lunt.

Thor and The Sub Mariner join in to help but were unable to prevent The Black Knight and Doctor Druid from being captured. So Sub Mariner, She-Hulk and Captain Marvel (now team leader) try to figure out how to get them back.

Great job telling the story of how Thor and Loki grew up together and the origins of his sword (Mjolnir). Thor rescues Sif from hell where Hela kept her captive. The story is very much in line with the recent movie and Odin is drawn to look a lot like Anthony Hopkins.
